Community Spirit Challenge 2011
It’s with great pleasure that we announce the winners of our inaugural Community Spirit Challenge.
Most Creative Category Winner : Derwent Valley Community House
– a piece created by a group of crafters with little or no sewing experience, which has used applique and fabric sculpture to create a representation of the Derwent Valley – it’s people, industry, geography and community.

Open Category Winner: Devonport Community House
– created by the House Patchworkers and Quilting Group, this hanging has used fabric and applique to represent the “City With Spirit” – using motifs like the Spirit of Tasmania, farming, their jazz festival and their community.

Both hangings are beautiful, inspirational pieces of work truly expressing the spirit of their communities and they are both very worthy winners of the Toyota sewing machines, generously sponsored by Aisin Toyota.
The winners were officially announced on 11th May at the Simultaneous Event launch with Cassy O’Connor at West Moonah Community House.
Congratulations to both Houses and we thank you for the time and effort needed to create your beautiful hangings.
