Building Inclusive Communities Across Tasmania

National Neighbourhood House Week – Sunday 8th to Saturday 14th May 2011

ANHLC

Neighbourhood House Week 2011 will be held between the 8th and 14th May.

NHW is held each year and is a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate the work of Neighbourhood and Community Houses and Centres in their communities.  This year's theme is "Neighbourhood Houses – the heart of our community".

Houses and Centres are celebrating over the week in lots of ways including a simultaneous event, morning teas, lunches, craft and exercise activities, playgroups and displays.  Have a look at the NHW Calendar link below to see what your Neighbourhood House has planned.

NHW Simultaneous Event – “What does your community house mean to you?”

This year’s activities include a “simultaneous event” being held around the state on Wednesday, 11th May at 11 am.  In most communities, this event will centre around a get together of community members, with many taking part in a mosaic project - "What does this community house mean to you?".  In addition to this, Houses have planned celebrations like morning teas, lunches and community garden events in conjunction with their simultaneous event.  Click here or check the calendar links above to find out what your House is planning (check back regularly as the calendar will be updated during the week).

Minister for Human Services, Cassy O'Connor, to launch NHW Simultaneous Event

On Wednesday, 11th May at 11 am, the Minister for Human Services, Cassy O’Connor, will visit West Moonah Community House, 130 Springfield Avenue, West Moonah, to officially launch our inaugural simultaneous NHW event across 34 communities.  The Minister will take part in their shared celebration and will share why Neighbourhood Houses are important to creating stronger local communities in Tasmania.

Neighbourhood House Volunteer Reception

During the week, Committee Members, Staff and Volunteers from Houses state-wide have also been invited to attend a special reception in their honour hosted by His Excellency the Honourable Peter Underwood, Governor of Tasmania, and Mrs Underwood at Government House.
